The Importance of Supporting Staff Training Closer to Home

The Importance of Supporting Staff Training Closer to Home

This holiday season, we’re celebrating the dedicated healthcare professionals who provide life-changing care in our region. We’re proud to be part of a community that supports our healthcare workers as they go above and beyond every day. But to continue providing the highest level of care, they need more than just skills and passion—they need the right resources.

At the heart of every healthy community are the dedicated staff who provide essential care day in and day out. In rural areas, where resources are often limited, ensuring that healthcare staff have the training and support they need is more important than ever. That’s why we’re working to provide opportunities for our staff closer to home.

With 10 hospitals, 18 community health offices, and 16 personal care homes, the need for specialized training and professional development is critical. Traditionally, staff in rural areas have had to travel to larger centers to access vital training, incurring travel expenses and time away from their families and patients. By training internal educators, we can bring training into our communities, reducing barriers for staff.

Recently, thanks to generous support, we were able to provide training opportunities to certify internal educators who deliver required training to nursing staff across the region. Patrice Lee, Director of Health Services, shares how the impact of these internal training programs extends beyond the staff who receive the training to the patients and families who depend on them:

“It isn’t just about professional development; it’s about bolstering the foundation of our healthcare system and ensuring that every individual, regardless of their geographic location, has access to the highest quality of care.”
