Welcome to Rosewood Lodge, Rhondda and Harris.

Welcome to Rosewood Lodge, Rhondda and Harris.

There’s a little more chatter and colour at Rosewood Lodge these days — and it’s all thanks to the generosity of donors who helped make two new feathered friends possible for residents.

For many residents at Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Home in Stonewall, Ozzy the cockatiel was a companion, a source of comfort, entertainment, and daily connection. Whether he was chirping away, interacting with staff and residents, or simply perched nearby, Ozzy brought warmth and engagement to the home and when he passed away, his absence was deeply felt.

Recognizing how meaningful that companionship had been, the recreation team at Rosewood Lodge set out to find new housemates for the residents to enjoy. Recreation staff thoughtfully researched several bird options, putting together the pros and cons of different species and bird pairings so residents could help make the decision themselves.

After the votes were counted, two budgies came out on top.

Now, Rhondda — a bright blue budgie — and Harris — a cheerful green budgie — have officially moved into Rosewood Lodge and are already making themselves at home.

“They are adjusting well to their new home, are brightly coloured and quite chatty, and the residents are loving them,” shared Recreation Coordinator Sheryl Steinthorson-Taylor.

The arrival of Rhondda and Harris is another example of how donor support helps create moments of joy, comfort, and connection that go beyond basic care. Because of community generosity, the Foundation was able to step in and help ensure residents once again had the companionship and engagement they were missing.

Sometimes, it’s the smallest things, a chirp in the hallway, a colourful flutter of wings or a shared smile, that make the biggest difference!
