The Interlake-Eastern RHA’s Palliative Care Program and the Interlake Eastern Health Foundation (IEHF) celebrate the generous donation of $15,000 to establish a permanent fund as a legacy to Cynthia Turner. If you ask Cynthia’s family they will say that she is the only person they knew that truly lived by The Golden Rule. She was thoughtful, considerate, generous, and caring. She helped her husband Bob be a better person, and loved her family dearly.

Grants from this fund will support the Palliative Care Program for the purpose of assisting with the purchase of any required resource including; equipment, programming, training, and education. Education is a top priority for all disciplines in health care, particularly when providing a supportive type of care throughout a person’s disease trajectory and through their death. Being equipped with up to date knowledge in best practices and therapeutic conversations is essential in supporting the client and their caregivers.

Tammie-Lee Rogowski RN CHPCN(C) CCHN(C), Clinical Team Manager Home Care & Allied Health says she is grateful for this new endowment fund that will provide equipment, education and training for RHA staff.

“We have tremendous gratitude for the Turner family and thank them for the financial support” says Rogowski.

Bob Turner says it gives him and his family great pride and satisfaction to support Palliative Care through the Cynthia Turner Endowment Fund.

“Cynthia’s decision to spend her final days at home was the right one, particularly with the kind of support we received from the palliative care Team. Time and again, she commented on how wonderful the care was and the support the family and I received as we cared for her in our home. The doctor, nurses, home-care workers, all went beyond what we ever expected. Nothing was too much trouble, no questions were left unanswered, whatever we needed, we received. We will be forever grateful to the Palliative Care team” says Turner.

Pamela McCallum, executive director of the Interlake Eastern Health Foundation speaks to how wonderful it has been working with Bob to establish this fund.

“This gift creates a legacy for Cynthia that will last a lifetime. It’s easy to hear the love in Bob’s voice when he speaks of Cynthia, and I am so grateful to him for establishing this fund in Cynthia’s honour” says McCallum.
